The Björnen area is only a few kilometres southeast of Åre and its growing fast. There’s a lot of talk about Björnen, but what kind of place is it really? Let’s find out – here’s your guide to Björnen Åre!
Björnen got its first lift in and in wintertime, 10 lifts and 18 slopes are open in this area. The ski area consists mostly of green and blue slopes and is very suitable for families with children and not so familiar skiers. There’s also Åres Cross-Country Arena with everything from 1 to 15 kilometres of both skate and classic tracks run by SkiStar.
Since the start of the summer of , a network of trails for trail cycling has emerged in the Björnen area. Today Åre Bike Park Trail, as the area is called by cyclists, boast about ten trails. During the summer season, there is a large pump track (perfect for large and small children), a technical track and a climbing park with ziplines among the treetops.
At the top of Björnen, on top of the mountain, lies the hotel Copperhill. Between there and Björnens Centre there are loads of cabins, houses, and apartments.

In Åre Björnen, all accommodation is ski in/ski out. Skiing is easy, slopes here are green and blue. You will hardly find any red ones, and the black ones are totally absent in this part of the valley.
Lifts are everything from carpets, button lifts and t-bars. Easy access to ski-school, toilets and huts for short breaks. All in all, a perfect place to start a life on skis. The beginners area here is without chairlifts. Somehow a substandard for Åre as an international destination. However, there is one modern, detachable meter long, six-seater connecting Åre Björnen with the Åre central ski area.
There are some real skiing here as well
When you find yourself skiing around Sadelexpressen (the name of the only chairlift). Slopes are really nice for carving. Certainly, there are some red slopes here. When you go over the top, you have access to the central lift system in Åre. You will find some t-bars that cover this area as well. They will secure the access to Åre on windy days when sadelexpressen is closed.
Dont miss out Björnenliften, This one is often forgotten. Its a shame because the one slope there follows the terrain really nice. You will find this
